Maintaining hardwood floors is so much easier today than in past decades. Modern finishes on the market today make cleaning your floor easier than ever.

Regular maintenance requires little more than sweeping with a soft bristle broom, or vacuuming with a soft floor attachment if your wood floor includes beveled edges which might collect debris. Clean your floors periodically with a professional wood floor cleaning product recommended by the manufacturer or a wood flooring professional. You can make your life easier if you …
·Use throw rugs inside and outside of doorways to help prevent grit, dirt and other debris from being tracked onto your wood floors and scratching them. In the kitchen, place an area rug in front on the sink.

·Place fabric-faced glides under furniture legs to prevent scuffing and scratching. When moving heavy furniture, do not slide on wood flooring.

·Pick up the furniture completely to protect the wood flooring.

·Avoid walking on your wood floors with cleats, sports shoes and high heels. ( A 125 pound woman walking in high heels delivers an impact force of 2000 pounds per square inch; an exposed heel nail can exert up to 8000 pounds per square inch. This kind of impact can dent any floor surface. )
Recommended Products: Bona's Hardwood Floor Care System, Murphy Oil Soap, Felt Guard heavy duty felt pads and ACE heavy duty felt pads. All these products can be found at your local hardware store.

Never wet-mop a wood floor. Standing water can dull the finish, damage the wood and leave a discoloring residue. Wipe up spills immediately with a towel slightly dampened with water or a wood cleaner approved for your floor. Harsh cleaners like ammonia or vinegar or vinyl floor care products are not necessary and may damage the floor’s finish, voiding the warranty. Keep your home at normal living conditions for your area-no extremes of humidity or temperature.
